Pacquiao vs Spence

On May 21, 2021, eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao made the unexpected announcement on his social media that he would face undefeated WBC and IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. on August 21 in Las Vegas on Fox pay-per-view (PPV).

This 12-round welterweight title bout will take place on Saturday, August 21 and is being held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The ring walks for Pacquiao v Spence are expected from 5am on Sunday morning UK time.

No TV coverage has been confirmed for the UK as of yet but the fight will be shown on FOX PPV in the USA.

Errol Spence Jr is set to defend his WBC and IBF welterweight titles against Manny Pacquiao in a big FOX pay-per-view main event on Aug. 21, and stopped by tonight’s Showtime broadcast in San Antonio to speak with Brian Custer about the fight — and about Terence Crawford.

Spence (27-0, 21 KO) chuckled a bit when he was reminded that the 42-year-old Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KO) said that if he can beat Errol Spence Jr next month, he should be considered the best fighter ever. And the Texan believes that on the other hand, if he beats Pacquiao, it will prove that he is truly the top welterweight today.

The two men had previously already met more than two years prior on March 16, 2019, in the ring following Spence's unanimous decision victory over Mikey Garcia in Arlington, Texas, when both Pacquiao and Spence indicated they would relish the chance to fight each other.

Errol Spence Jr. won't press for a knockout against Manny Pacquiao. All the unbeaten American champion wants now is a clear victory over the legendary Filipino icon.

Aside from the visible differences in their first face-off, bettors were also swayed to Spence's side by the fact that Pacquiao last fought in July 2019 when he bested the then-unbeaten Keith Thurman for the World Boxing Association super welterweight belt.

Despite the odds stacked against him, Pacquiao chose Spence, holder of the World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation crowns, in what could be his final fight.

While this fight is certainly one that has got fans excited, there is a hint of disappointment with many wanting Spence to face WBO champion Terence Crawford in what would be a clash for the ages.

Manny Pacquiao versus Ryan Garcia

All of us have heard the parade of possibilities for “next” for Manny Pacquiao, from Errol Spence to Terence Crawford, to UFCer Conor McGregor. When word started going round that “King” Ryan Garcia, the 22 year old hitter, was in the mix to meet the 42 year old living legend, eyebrows raised.

Garcia is a major rising star, while Pacquiao is still one of the biggest names in global boxing, and this fight would be a huge get for DAZN, whose global presence is in its infancy. Garcia is becoming a key star for their boxing brand, while Pacquiao has never fought on the streaming service, but is a promotional and broadcast free agent who can go where the best offer is, and DAZN would definitely have to pony up big bucks to get Pacquiao on board.

The 22-year-old Garcia recently expressed his desire to face Pacquiao shortly after his seventh-round technical knockout of Luke Campbell earlier this year.

The defeated McGregor was the most talked-about possible opponent for for Pacquiao, who has not been in the ring since his win over Keith Thurman in July 2019.

Well, this one is a game changer, this fight puts Garcia, coming off a win over Luke Campbell on Jan 2., in a position to become a legit lead dog who’d get to within sniffing distance of industry pack leader Alvarez.

Pacman, who turns 43 in December, will be seen as the favorite by plenty of pundits and fans who believe he has enough left at this advance age, and with a full load as a Senator in the Philippines, to show the pup he’s still of a certain grade.

Pacquiao had recently seemed focused on a possible mega-fight with UFC superstar Conor McGregor, but with McGregor being knocked out by Dustin Poirier at UFC 257, Garcia may be the most intriguing option for him. Manny probably would be the favorite here, while a fight with Errol Spence Jr or Terence Crawford would see the aged legend as the underdog.

Hours after Conor McGregor's loss to Dustin Poirier in UFC 257, a new potential opponent for Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has emerged.

This after a report by Mike Coppinger of The Athletic that there are already talks between Pacquiao's camp and that of WBC interim lightweight champion Ryan Garcia.

Per Coppinger, "preliminary discussions" are going on between the two camps.

If this happens, how interested are you? What kind of fight would you expect?

Pac tokens

The 40-year-old boxer Manny Pacquiao, who defeated Keith Thurman to win the WBA Welterweight Super Championship in July and is also a Philippine senator, hopes to cash in on his "Pac" tokens, which will allow fans to buy his merchandise and interact with him via social media.

The "Pac" token will be listed on Singapore's Global Crypto Offering Exchange (GCOX) and counts Pacquiao and ex-Liverpool and England soccer star Michael Owen as private investors, along with Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed al-Nahyan, a member of Abu Dhabi's ruling family.

It is the world’s first celebrity cryptocurrency. Tennis ace Caroline Wozniacki, Owen and singer Jason Derulo also plan to launch their own crypto tokens with GCOX.

At Sunday's concert, Pacquiao sang songs from his own album which has sold thousands of copies and covers popular love songs.

"Pacquiao is idolised by many. People will be encouraged to check this innovation," Aaron Baetiong, 38, who attended the concert, said of the "Pac" tokens.

The cryptocurrency is going to list on Global Crypto Offering Exchange (GCOX), the prominent exchange of Singapore who claims to be the best exchange to list the digital assets of celebrities.

The project is not very latest as there has been going a development work from the past year. After being ready to go into the crypto markets, Manny decided to unveil it in a music concert in the presence of his wife on the stage.

The entry of a celebrity in the crypto world is not the first case as the digital currency has attracted many celebrities in its magic web. Jason Derulo, the American singer and songwriter, is also working diligently to launch its cryptocurrency on the same platform, GCOX. Similarly, Serena Williams, a tennis star, recently invested in Coinbase.

Manny Pacquiao for President

The 40-year-old boxer, who remains a hero in his homeland, has even been considered a top contender for the Philippine presidential elections in 2022 by none other than incumbent Rodrigo Duterte, who has announced in the past that he intends to make Pacquiao his successor.

This whole week leading up to his comeback fight Pacquiao has been answering questions about his new life as a senator and support of Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte, whose ultraviolent war on drugs, affection for extrajudicial killings, affiliations with anti-narcotic death squads, and self-confessed similarity to Adolf Hitler have made him the most-hated man among the international community’s human rights advocates. All the while Pacquiao has been supportive of his old friend, leading the charge in the senate for the reinstatement of the death penalty for drug dealers and ousting the chair of the committee tasked with investigating Duterte’s connection to violent vigilante groups.

Manny Pacquiao has been considered a top contender for the Philippines presidency since he became a member of the senate and talk of him becoming leader of his country has picked up steam again.

Duterte said during Pacquiao’s 39th birthday bash in 2017 that the Filipino icon would make an ideal president. “I told him when we were alone, I want him to become president,” Duterte said in 2017.

“You have brought so much pride and joy to our country for being the world champion in the field of boxing,” Duterte said of the fighting senator.

But even first-term senators devoted to murderous tyrants with a discipline fetish have their limits. And apparently Pacquiao’s came this week, after Duterte’s long nose-thumbing campaign against the United States and President Barack Obama (who Duterte called a “son of a bitch” in September and told to “go to hell” in October) culminated with his calling for the removal of all U.S. troops and military bases from the Philippines and blowing off reports that the U.S. will halt the sale of 24,000 guns to his government’s national police over Duterte’s approach to fighting drugs by calling American leaders “monkeys” and “fools” and saying he’ll just get those guns from someone else, like Russia.

“Being a public servant is different from sports. It’s more on the mind and a lot of problems, thinking about how to solve those problems in the country, and also to provide solution to those problems.”

Just last month, a reporter asked if he would still continue boxing if he became president. Pacquiao replied: “I hope so.”

Pacquiao vs Matthysse

Pacquiao is going for his 60th victory since turning pro in 1995, but despite winning 38 of his first 47 fights by knockout, he has not stopped an opponent in nine years.

"He looks like the old Pacquiao," declared Fortune of the boxer who is also an elected senator in the Philippines and is tipped one day to run for president. "His metabolism is ridiculous. He's a freak."

Matthysse (39-4, 36 KOs) paid tribute to Pacquiao but warned that his admiration for one of the world's greatest pound-for-pound fighters would not stop him from taking his belt back to South America.

Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao challenges Lucas "The Machine" Matthysse for the World Boxing Association welterweight belt on Sunday knowing defeat could lower the curtain on one of the greatest careers in boxing history.

Pacquiao is a slight betting favorite at -210, meaning you’d have to bet $210 on him to win $100, while Matthysse is +170. But this ESPN+ fight feels like a 50-50 matchup (though it seems like most fighters who are weighing in on the fight are going with Pacquiao). That said, here are some predictions from those fighters and experts who know these boxers better than most anybody else.

Filipino sports analyst Joaquin 'Quinito' Henson reported last November 2017 that the Chinese government had approached Pacquiao to promote boxing in China, to which Pacquiao agreed.

Henson said that boxing promoters could make a killing even if they get only a slice of the Chinese pay-per-view (PPV) market. "If each pay-per-view subscription sells for $10, with a conservative audience of 100 million, total revenues would amount to $1 billion," he said, higher even than the $400 million PPV gross in the Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather bout.

Prior to his title bout on Sunday, Pacquiao's MP Promotions had welcomed to its training camp in General Santos City nine Chinese fighters.

"There is no good professional boxing trainer in China because professional boxing in the country has only 4 or 5 years history," Tian Ye, boxing coach and matchmaker in China.

China’s most famous boxer, Zou Shiming, lost his WBO flyweight belt when he was knocked out by Japan’s unfancied Sho Kimura in his first defense last year.

When Pacquiao’s plans for China were first announced in 2014, he said that he believed the partnership could help thaw frosty ties between the Philippines and China, who were engaged in a maritime dispute in the South China Sea.

Relations have since improved considerably under current Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte

Pacquiao Vs Horn

The fact is, Pacquiao is an aging fighter who has been in too many ring wars. Time catches up with all fighters, and it looked for long stretches in Sunday's fight like it finally caught up with him.

In the first fight of the televised card, middleweight Shane Mosley Jr. suffered his second career loss, falling to the (still) undefeated David Toussaint. Mosley is the son of legendary boxer Sugar Shane Mosley, but he now has two losses in his short career. One judge saw it his way on Saturday, as Toussaint took a split decision, but the fight really wasn’t that close. Toussaint faded late and Mosley capitalized, but was unable to score a stoppage and was too far back on the judges’ scorecards.

The second televised bout saw Irish prospect Michael Conlan in his third professional fight and with it, his third professional win. Conlan was an amateur boxing sensation and on Saturday, he looked as professional as it gets en route to a third-round TKO of Jarrett Owen in featherweight competition.

Manny Pacquiao and Jeff Horn combined for a 12-round war on Saturday, but in the end the fight ended with a controversial decision win for the hometown boy, Horn. The judges scored the bout 117-111, 115-113, 115-113 for Horn, but many had Pacquiao winning the fight.

Pacquiao was heavily favored going into the bout. Horn came into the fight as an undefeated prospect who had never fought anybody at Pacquiao’s level. Pacquiao, though no longer in his prime, was expected to pick Horn apart and score an easy points win.

That’s not exactly what happened. Horn displayed his youth and superior strength early, consistently rushing Pacquiao down and bullying him into the corner or against the ropes. But in these exchanges, Pacquiao was swimming and dodging all the serious shots from Horn and eventually started to put together combos of his own. When Horn slowed down, Pacquiao responded with his signature crisp combos and he opened up a cut that was swelling big time in the later rounds.

It seems like just about everybody on Twitter had some sort of reaction to the controversial Pacquiao-Horn decision, and nobody took the judges’ sides.

Pacquiao also had a couple cuts on his own head, but they weren’t near the eye, so he was good to go. Horn definitely took some of the earlier rounds, and showed signs of life in the 11th round, but Pacquiao put together a couple potential 10-8 rounds in the latter half of the fight. Horn really fought back in the latter two rounds, but most thought Pacquiao did enough to win it.

Pacquiao came into this fight with two wins since his last loss, to Floyd Mayweather, and now will go back to the drawing board again.

Jerwin Ancajas and Teiru Kinoshita faced off in the co-feature on the card, and it was a great fight. Well, it was for a little bit, until Ancajas opened up a cut above Kinoshita’s right eye. From there, Ancajas punished that spot and the swelling became too much. In the seventh round, Ancajas landed a brutal body shot that put Kinoshita on the mat. Kinoshita took his time getting up, and by then his right eye was essentially completely closed. The referee stopped the fight there, giving Ancajas a TKO victory.

Pacquiao vs. Vargas

Now that the Philippine Senate is on a break, the boxing legend says he is finally able to start training in earnest to face WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas in Las Vegas.

Three months after ending his brief ring "retirement", Pacquiao is in the final weeks of preparations for the fight on Saturday, November 5.

"It can be very difficult if you are not disciplined. But I feel good," said Pacquiao.

"Every day I was able to run in the morning and then train after the Senate session. The gym is very close to the Senate.

"It is important to win this fight convincingly to prove that I am still there."

Pacquiao's long-time trainer Freddie Roach said the 37 year-old's continued success is a result of the hard work in the gym.

"His work ethic is still the greatest I have ever seen," Roach said. "I am amazed that after 15 years of working together he still has that passion.

"He's beating the mitts and beating his sparring partners. He still has the speed and power. Manny will punch this guy out."

If he gets past Vargas, as many think he will, Pacquiao could be looking at a fight against unbeaten Terence Crawford in 2017.

Cong. Pacquiao pledges loyalty to Binay

Saranggani Rep. Manny Pacquiao assured Vice President Jejomar Binay of his unwavering support to his presidential bid despite the entry of his good friend Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in the presidential race.

Pacquiao  made the pledge as he welcomed United Nationalist Alliance standard bearer in his province and accompanied  the vice president in going to Colon, Maasim town where Binay was scheduled to grace the Fourth Council Jamboree of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines.

Duterte filed his certificate of candidacy for president as a substitute to former Quezon City barangay chairman Martin Dino as candidate of PDP-Laban party.,

“May isang salita tayo.  Ang sinusuportahan natin ay mahal na bise presidente at UNA candidate at hindi na magbabago iyon,” Pacquiao was quoted as saying during a press conference held at Saranggani Highlands.

Pacquiao is running as senator for UNA.  He used to be national vice president of PDP-Laban.
Before filing his certificate of candidacy for senator, Pacquiao admitted that he was asked to back Duterte, whom he considers as a good friend.

Pacquiao said his support for Binay should not be misconstrued to spell the end of his friendship with Duterte.

The  eight division world champion said he will strongly campaign for Binay.

Pacquiao vs Henares

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) expects Sarangani Rep. and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao to have learned from his tax battle with the bureau, and accurately settle and report his taxes in connection with his much anticipated bout with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in May.

BIR Commissioner Kim Henares said Pacquiao should properly and accurately report to the BIR the taxes he will be paying the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and submit supporting documents authenticated by the Philippine Embassy in the US.

Henares also reminded Pacquiao to withhold taxes from salaries and other payments he makes to his employees and staff.

Pacquiao and the BIR are in a legal battle in connection with his alleged deficiency income tax and value-added tax (VAT) assessments for taxable years 2008 and 2009 amounting to P2.2 billion.

Pacquiao will meet Mayweather in a mega-fight in Las Vegas on May 2.

The Richest Fight in History

If not the biggest boxing event of all time, it sure will be the richest with a reported $250 million being split $150m to Mayweather and $100m to Pacquiao in a single fight deal. Some industry pundits say these figures could be a little exaggerated with the purse more likely to be $200m, split $120m and $80m respectively by Mayweather and Pacquiao.

The current record for pay-per-view buys is 2.5 million for the Mayweather/Oscar De la Hoya fight, while the current record for the most pay-per-view revenue in a boxing fight is $150m for the Mayweather/Canelo-Alvarez fight. This fight will likely eclipse both these records in a rare joint PPV split between the Showtime and HBO networks. The pay-per-view TV charges are expected to be somewhere around $85 on HD.

In addition to the rich TV rewards, there will be a $40m gate at Mayweather’s favourite stomping ground, the MGM Grand. Ticket pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it won’t come cheap. With the $350 to $2000 tickets for the Mayweather/Canelo-Alvarez fight selling out in less than 24 hours, it is expected that there will be a significant increase on these prices.

Stephen Espinoza, the General Manager of Showtime Sports, said in a statement: “Everyone involved, including Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, knows this fight simply had to happen. All of us are thrilled to be able to deliver this event to boxing fans around the world.”

The fight should put an end to the speculation about who is the greatest boxer in this era, and also stop the taunts that Mayweather has faced about ducking the fight in order to protect his undefeated status. Of all the possible fights talked about for the last five years, boxing fans around the world are most looking forward to the Mayweather/Pacquiao pairing. If the fight itself turns out to be as spectacular as they all hope, May 2nd 2015 will be a great day for the sport.

Pacquiao pledge to help typhoon

“I will send help to those who need it the most and I enjoin all of you to pray for our country and people in these trying times.”

Pacquiao, who defeated Rios by unanimous decision to take the WBO international welterweight title, has dedicated his comeback fight to storm victims and promised to visit Tacloban and outlying regions that the storm had turned into a corpse-strewn wasteland.

When the bell rang to signal the end of the 12-round match, many spectators in Tacloban threw their baseball caps, shirts and pieces of cardboard into the air, even before the result was officially announced.

Tacloban city folk, Nebasa said, would gladly await the visit of Pacquiao, who rose from poverty to become one of the world’s highest-paid athletes.

In Macau, the 13,000-seat arena at the Venetian casino was packed. Many in the audience were Filipinos who either lived and worked in Macau or nearby Hong Kong, or made the one-hour flight from the Philippines.

Some waved Philippine flags, and frequently chanted, “Manny, Manny.”

The much-needed victory of the national boxing hero of the Philippines, Manny Pacquiao was celebrated by the Filipino victims of super typhoon Yolanda which left hundreds of thousands homeless and jobless particularly in the heavily-affected Samar and Leyte provinces.

Filipino boxing icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao dedicates his title match against Brandon Rios to the Filipinos who suffered the onslaught of super typhoon Yolanda that hits Visayas on November 8. Pacquiao’s inspiration are the Filipino victims but according to the victims, Manny’s victory lift their spirits and served as inspiration for them.

Pacquiao updates

His pretty face was battered and bruised as Pacquiao, with blinding hand-speed and remarkable movement cut De La Hoya to ribbons, nailing him with punches from all angles and darting in and out with such dexterity that De La Hoya couldn't catch him, laying to waste his boast that he would knock Pacquiao out because the battle was "personal."

During a courtesy call at the Philippine Consulate in Chicago prior to Manny Pacquiao's showdown with "The Golden Boy" Oscar De La Hoya, astute Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said "speed kills."

While Pacquiao's speed didn't take the life of De La Hoya, the Filipino southpaw pulverized one of the biggest names and certainly one of the most glamorous fighters in the history of the sport, forcing him to quit seated on his stool at the end of the 7th round.

It obviously had to do with Pacquiao accepting $250,000 following a dinner with De La Hoya in Los Angeles and then signing a promotional contract without realizing that under the terms of an existing contract with Top Rank's Bob Arum, he couldn't break away.

In the end Pacquiao light-heartedly blamed his lawyer, Atty. Franklin "Jeng" Gacal for the ill-advised decision, returned De La Hoya's money and signed a new contract with Arum.

That contract, for the record, was recently extended to December 2014 with reports that Pacquiao got a $1 million signing bonus.

The 2014 deadline provides an insight into Pacquiao's career path. By then Pacquiao would be 35 years old and would wish to concentrate on his political career. It also leaves enough time for him to entice undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr to step into the ring against him in a fight the world has clamored for but is unlikely to do so, for much longer.

Pacquiao has bent backwards to accommodate Mayweather's demands including taking a smaller purse and agreeing to random drugs tests. As one boxing columnist pointed out, the only thing Pacquiao didn't offer to do was to drive Mayweather to the venue of their fight.

With the possibility of a rematch or even a trilogy provided they are able to agree on the first fight, then the 2014 contract extension fits nicely into Pacquiao's plans.

Right now however, his plans are centered on shutting up Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez who has continued to irritatingly claim that he won their three previous fights and was robbed of the decision by the judges.

If at all, Marquez could make a case for a truly controversial split decision victory by Pacquiao in their third encounter but there is no way he won the first after being dropped three times in the opening round which ended in a draw after judge Burt Clements admitted he made a mistake scoring the first round 10-7 instead of 10-6 which the two other judges did based on the three knockdowns.

In their rematch Pacquiao dropped Marquez once again with a perfectly-timed left hook to win a majority decision.

But after the controversial third fight and Marquez's posturing, celebrated trainer Freddie Roach wants nothing less than a knockout to erase the doubts over their previous battles and to effectively prove who is the better fighter.

Roach has made it clear "It has to be a knockout" which is what they have worked on in the gym, hammering out a strategy that would accomplish the goal.

Legendary Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr.  told Pacquiao's strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza that reflecting over Pacquiao's recent fights "the problem with Manny is he thinks too much and when he does some thing he gives Marquez time. But when Manny loosens up and lets it go, Marquez looks lost. He didn't know what to do at times. That's Manny Pacquiao."

Chavez added: "You don't know what he's doing when he throws so many punches. You don't have time to figure and set up counter punches because it's 'boom, boom, boom and its coming from. everywhere."

Chavez, Sr. believes Pacquao must let his hands go, and go after Marquez because when he does there is nobody who can deal with that. In short, Manny must return to being a street-fighter ready to rip Marquez' head off.

From all accounts after two weeks preparation at the Wild Card Gym following two weeks of solid training in his hometown of General Santos City with childhood friend and Filipino trainer Restituto "Buboy" Fernandez which even drew a surprised look on Roach's face to see Pacquiao in such good shape and commendation from Ariza, Pacquiao appears to be returning to the fiery fighter he once was — the same devastating puncher who mauled De La Hoya, separated Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton from his senses in two rounds and ripped Miguel Cotto to score a 12th round TKO.

As Pacquiao himself has said the challenge is to put on a performance that will "put this fight into history."

In the assessment of Ariza, who normally likes to back off from making the mistake of painting a glowing picture of where Pacquiao is at and how well he's doing, the old fire is back in the belly of Pacquiao.

Six sparring sessions have demonstrated the sharp focus and the relentless pursuit of a goal by Pacquiao which was set for him by Roach. Nothing short of a knockout would suffice when he clashes with Marquez for the fourth time at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on December 9 (Manila Time).

As he finished his second week under the watchful eye of Roach and wound up on Saturday with eight rounds of sparring, Ariza couldn't help but sound elated in a conversation with Yahoo! Philippines. "He was simply amazing," said Ariza after eight rounds of sparring.

To him it's clear that Manny wants to be the old Manny Pacquiao who, when he hurt an opponent he would pursue him and when he threw punches it was with the intention of hurting the man in front of him.

The resiliency is there and he's relentless throwing flurries of punches and putting them together effectively.

To the strength and conditioning coach who began his association with Roach and took over Pacquiao's conditioning from former heavyweight contender Justin Fortune, "It's a different Manny Pacquiao, just like the old times."

The normally conservative Ariza didn't back off when asked what he thought of Pacquiao with four weeks to go before fight night He conceded that "on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give him a 10!"

But he quickly threw in a conditionality stating that he hated making such assessments "because I don't want to set myself up since I don't know what's going to happen over the next two weeks."

If all goes as planned then Freddie Roach may well  get his wish as well as Pacquiao's mother, Dionisia Pacquiao, who has made it clear she wants her son to finish Marquez "in one or two rounds."

Still no definite opponent for Manny Pacquiao

The question in the minds of most of the fans of "Fighter of the Decade" Manny Pacquiao is what' s taking him so long to decide on the opponent for his planned December 8 fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Initially, there was some confusion on when the fight would take place, if at all.
Timothy "Desert Storm" Bradley's gimmick in holding up a large replica of a fight ticket for November 10 which Bradley picked as the  date of a rematch has apparently backfired on him.
In fact, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told us the US pay-per-view networks are not interested in a Pacquiao-Bradley rematch since their first meeting produced a mere 700,000 PPV buys which were basically regarded as people who wanted to watch Pacquiao, not Bradley.
The hugely controversial split decision in which Bradley grabbed the WBO welterweight title of Pacquiao didn't sit well with many who condemned the decision as a robbery perpetrated, in the words of Arum, by three blind mice.
The other aspect of the Bradley equation is that he, as champion in the books, would ask for more than the $5 million he got the first time around and Arum isn't prepared to fork out any extra dollars unless it comes out of Pacquiao's purse. And for all Manny's charitable disposition he is unlikely to take a cut in his purse merely to have an opportunity to avenge his defeat which, in the eyes of the whole wide world, was no defeat at all.
Pacquiao, according to Arum who actually deals with him through Michael Koncz, Pacquiao's adviser who is also a good friend of Arum, will "definitely fight on December 8."
The venue will be the MGM Grand Garden Arena. But, as of this moment, Pacquiao hasn't decided on an opponent although his options, based on the proposals laid out by Arum, have been narrowed down to Bradley and Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez after Pacquiao's initial choice Miguel Cotto dropped out, refusing to come down to 150 pounds and preferring to face champion Austin Trout.
Perhaps the delay in Pacquiao's decision stems from the fact that if chances of a massive money-earning showdown with undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr look much better  today after  Mayweather's close friend 50 Cent got into the boxing promotion business, Manny may not wish to gamble on a troublesome opponent like Marquez whose three fights with Pacquiao have all been close with the last one truly controversial.
Of course Marquez keeps blabbering that he won all three fights but that the judges robbed him of victory.
Whether this is a ploy to entice Pacquiao to agree to a fourth fight in a desire to shut him up we'll never know.
But one thing for sure, the influential president of the World Boxing Council Don Jose Sulaiman doesn't want Pacquiao to give Marquez a chance to make a lot more money fighting him after having effectively insulted Pacquiao by his claims and apparently bad-mouthing the eight division champion in Mexico.
Don Jose is one of those who staunchly believes a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight can be made and has offered to lend his good offices to help achieve the goal of staging a fight the whole world wants to see before both fighters begin to fade and the long wait erodes public interest.
Arum himself believes that 50 Cent has shown a good business sense and would be far easier to deal with compared to his arch rivals — or is it enemy — Golden Boy Promotions who Arum claims,  carry a lot of baggage when they enter into negotiations.
Getting back to the December 8 date, Arum told us the other day he has an idea as to who Pacquiao is leaning towards and said he expects a decision to be made within the week which is the same tune that Michael Koncz is singing.
Mexican promoter Fernando Beltran who is also close to Arum says a Marquez fight is 95 percent done while Koncz says a few things need to be resolved.
Both celebrated trainer Freddie Roach and strength and conditioning guru Alex Ariza have openly stated that a fourth fight with Marquez would  be testy. And they are laying down specific suggestions which, hopefully, Manny will respond to, positively.
The common ground is that Pacquiao should train for eight weeks solely at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles and scrap the Baguio City training camp where they realize there are far too many distractions, including nightly Bible Study and preaching sessions where a gathering of pastors seem to have replaced the previous group of hangers-on.
While the excesses of the past have happily disappeared, Pacquiao is still forced into long hours and late nights with his new-found evangelical mission telling on him, physically.
Several individuals close to Pacquiao tell us that whenever they bring up the question of who his next opponent will be, Manny shrugs them off with vague and inconclusive answers making them wonder whether indeed he is going to fight on December 8 or linger awhile hoping that a Mayweather fight could be made before next May's congressional elections.
Pacquiao is running for re-election from the lone district of Sarangani province and while he is unlikely to face any credible challenge, a political war chest replenished by a possible $50 million bonanza from a Mayweather fight would certainly make things so much easier.
In the meantime, we are all required to wait, wondering what's taking Manny so long to decide.

WBO panel says Pacquiao won by unanimous decision

Judges convened by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) unanimously scored in favor of Filipino ring icon Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao after reviewing his controversial split decision loss to American Timothy Bradley, which took place in Las Vegas June 9.

RingTV reported that the five judges, commissioned by WBO President Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel, unanimously scored the bout in Pacquiao’s favor, 117-111, 117-111, 118-110, 116-112 and 115-113.

In what was one of the most shocking decisions in boxing this year, Bradley was named the victor in their WBO welterweight clash last June 9, with judges Duane Ford and CJ Ross scoring the bout 115-113 in his favor. Only Jerry Roth scored the bout for Pacquiao, 115-113.

The result was derided by boxing media – most of whom saw Pacquiao winning by a wide margin – and fight fans, who suspected that there was a conspiracy which led to Bradley's victory.

Because of the controversial result, the WBO decided to take action, with Valcarcel saying that they will "take measures in accordance with the rules of procedure."

Despite the panel’s review, the WBO cannot reverse the decision of the judges on fight night.

"The only thing that we can do is authorize a rematch," Valcarcel told RingTV.

Pacquiao and Bradley’s fight contract contains a rematch clause, scheduled for November 10, but Top Rank officials – including chief executive Bob Arum and president Todd DuBoef – have said that they will most likely not push through with it.

Instead, Pacquiao may fight Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez for a fourth time this November.

Arum lauded the WBO's findings as a "Solomon-like conclusion."

"Paco is a good man, he really is. I have great respect for him and what he says. It's appropriate for him to make that final conclusion," the promoter told RingTV.

Arum said he will have to talk to Pacquiao about what he wants to do for his next bout.

"My first stop on any quest to determine what to do next is that I have to talk to the guy who is the money generator, and that's Manny Pacquiao," he said. "And I have to determine after discussions with him what he wants to do next, and we'll go from there."

Pacquiao is currently in the Philippines, where he is attending to his constituents in Sarangani after the province experienced severe floodings due to Typhoon "Butchoy."

Bradley is confident that he defeated Pacquiao, telling his supporters in Palm Springs, California that he won the fight eight rounds to four.

Pacquiao, for his part, has repeatedly asked his fans to accept his loss, as well as to not blame Bradley for the judges' decision.

The bout is also under investigation by the Attorney General of Nevada after a request filed by Arum. The Nevada State Athletic Commission, led by director Keith Kizer, will also review the video along with the three judges.

CHINA BEHIND PACQUIAO DEFEAT

It would be the first loss since 2005 for the ‘People’s Champ’ after losing via split decision to the ‘Desert Storm’, who is now the new WBO World Welterweight champion. Judges CJ Ross and Duane Ford scored it in favor of Bradley while Judge Jerry Roth scored it in favor of Pacquiao. Many believed that Pacquiao won the match.
What would seem like a failure or a flaw of the judging system implemented in boxing matches actually goes deeper, if a confidential report coming from Malacañang is to be believed.
According to our source, the confidential document contains findings by the intelligence community that concludes China as the one who was actually  behind the loss of the country’s prize-fighter. China apparently paid off the judges so that Pacquiao would surely lose the fight when it comes time to judge it. They were confident that the match would go to the scorecards because the gloves that the boxers used were specifically made in a factory in Tianjin, China. Said gloves had special materials that would soften the impact of the punches and minimize the chances of a knockout.  The original plan  was to payoff all the judges so that Pacquiao would lose unanimously, but being stingy that they were, China decided to just go with two judges hence the split decision.
The bribery was all part of the country’s grand scheme to destabilize the Philippines and to demoralize Filipinos, in an operation dubbed “打倒菲律宾人的骄傲 or “Bring Down Pinoy Pride” when translated to English.
This is China’s retaliation against the Philippines due to the ongoing dispute on Scarborough shoal which started a few months back. Authorities believed that China has targeted our weak spot when it decided to attack our pride. “Wala naman kasi tayong military installations or key strategic buildings na puwedeng atakin to speak of (We don’t even have military installations or key strategic building that they can attack to speak of),” said one high-ranking official of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Many Filipinos were shocked and upset with the outcome of the boxing match. Even Pacquiao’s mother, Mommy Dionesia, fainted upon hearing the news of her son’s loss. But what is alarming is the fact that China state television network China Central Television (CCTV) featured the fainting incident in a humor inspired segment, similar to that of Marc Logan’s; as propaganda for its people to mock the Philippines.
Recent events that have transpired would lend credence to the findings by Malacañang and would indeed seem like China was behind the following events to demoralize Filipinos:
  • Jessica Sanchez losing to Philip Phillips in American Idol
  • China suspending importation of Philippine bananas
  • Shanghai Sharks cancels goodwill games against Philippine basketball squad
  • Controversial BAYO ad that angered netizens
Dr. Ignacio Sanchez, head of Human Behavioral studies at the Universal College of the Philippines; who recently did a study on criminals, believed that China also perpetuated the outcome of the impeachment trial of then Chief Justice Corona.

“After masterminding the shocking result of Season 11 of American Idol, China then gave hope to the Filipinos when it orchestrated a 20-3 guilty vote for the impeachment of the Chief Justice,” explains Sanchez. “But it then quickly pulled-out the rug underneath us all by cancelling the basketball game,  launching the ‘racist’ ad to  dishearten the Philippines and the shocking results of the boxing match.”
.
The doctor likens this tactic to a man who humiliates another man by pulling down the latter’s pants in front of the public after rescuing him from the brink of death (i.e. speeding truck, psycho mugger, asthma attack). “It’s catching you off-guard when you least expect it, or when you think that you’re on top of the world,” said Dr. Sanchez. “It’s very disheartening indeed. A perfect one-two-three counter-punch combination”
.
The confidential report also narrates in detail the final coup de grace of Operation 打倒菲律宾人的骄傲. It describes a strategic pull out of all things Chinese from the Philippines that would ensure total destabilization of the country.

The ‘final push’ would anger, dishearten, bankrupt and depress adults and children alike that would send a chilling effect to the entire archipelago. And when the entire nation is down, that is when China would claim victory and proceed to occupy Scarborough Shoal. “If Filipinos are getting depressed by non-favorable contest results, what more would they feel if something big indeed happen,” said a Chinese diplomat who wishes to be unnamed.
The government is already coming up with contingency plans to provide substitutes for the above mentioned services, in case China indeed pushes through with the final stage of their plan.

Controversial split decision victory over Manny Pacquiao

WBO President Francisco ''Paco'' Valcarcel said in a statement Wednesday that the WBO's championship committee will review video of the fight with five ''recognized international judges'' and make a recommendation. He said the WBO does not doubt the ability of the scoring judges.

Most reporters seated ringside and the vast majority of fans inside the MGM Grand arena on Saturday night thought Pacquiao had easily defended his welterweight title against Bradley.

The first surprise came when ring announcer Michael Buffer announced that there was a split decision, and the biggest surprise came in the reading of the scores. Jerry Roth had it 115-113 for Pacquiao, while judges Duane Ford and C.J. Ross had it for Bradley by the same score.

The Associated Press scored the fight 117-111 for Pacquiao.

''The public saw the fight and they're outraged, and we need clarity here,'' Arum told The Associated Press on Wednesday. ''We need those responsible to investigate, to see what happened, how the judges could be so off.

''Was there any funny business going on? Or no funny business? Did they have a conversation with each other?'' Arum asked. ''We need to get clarity. The public is demanding it.''

Arum's powerful promotional company, Top Rank, has staged thousands of fights over more than four decades, including some of the most significant in the history of the sport.

He said that the scoring of Saturday night's fight was among the worst he's ever seen.

''It puts boxing in a very horrible light,'' he said. ''I'm looking for the sport to do damage control, and the only way it does damage control is if you do a full and complete investigation.''

Arum submitted a formal request to the Nevada Attorney General's office on Monday asking for an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the fight. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, the senior senator from
Nevada, also has asked for an investigation.

Jennifer Lopez, a spokeswoman for the Nevada Attorney General's office, said in an email to the AP that Arum's complaint is currently under review.

''We are treating the complaint like any other complaint our office receives,'' Lopez said. ''We do not confirm or deny if we have an ongoing criminal investigation.''

The Nevada State Athletic Commission's executive director, Keith Kizer, said this week that he has no plans to review the fight, even though he acknowledged having Pacquiao ahead.

Commission chairman Skip Avansino told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he was content with the scoring, while Ford defended his scorecard in an interview with the newspaper.

''I thought Bradley gave Pacquiao a boxing lesson,'' Ford said. ''I thought a lot of the rounds were close. Pacquiao missed a lot of punches and I thought he was throwing wildly.''

Arum believes the decision - along with the Nevada commission's reluctance to conduct its own investigation - could provide the impetus for a federal commission to provide oversight for the sport, which has long battled the perception that it is rife with corruption.

''If the commission here in Nevada will be in intransigent, and won't cooperate, we have to have a federal commission,'' Arum said. ''We have to examine who these are on the commission, how they got there, how they operate. Something is broke.''

Stats compiled by Compubox showed Pacquiao landing 253 punches to 159 for Bradley, and having a 190-108 edge in power punches. Pacquiao landed at 38.5 percent to 27.7 percent for Bradley.

The decision ended Pacquiao's 15-fight winning streak, but also sets up a potential rematch later this year.

There has been talk that it could happen in November.

Perhaps by then, Arum will have the clarity he is seeking from their first fight.
''Any other sport - football, baseball - the commissioner's office would investigate,'' he said. ''I'm not saying hang anybody, but let's get clarity here. Let's get a complete report as to what happened. They could say,

'Hey, all three judges had a bad night.' That's possible, too. I'm not leaping to conclusions. I want to know as well as anybody else.''

Reasons to Watch Pacquiao Vs Bradley

Manny Pacquiao vs Bradley on June 9th is going to be a great fight. Neither boxer knows how to quit and they are going to go right at each other. Therefore, these are 4 reasons to watch Pacquiao vs Bradley?

They are Good Guys

Boxing has gained a bad reputation. Casual sports fan like to talk about everything that is wrong with the sport. They will mention bad decisions, corruption and so-called less than entertaining fights. Likewise, boxers such as Dereck Chisora that engaged in a press conference brawl contributes to boxing's bad image.

It is good for boxing to have a prizefight between guys with good character such as Bradley and Pacquiao. They will bring attention to what is important the boxing match. Not pre-fight brawls and silly name calling. They are professionals that are not going to engage in any nonsense.

They are Two of the Best Pound for Pound Boxers in the World
The last few years in boxing their have been several mismatches and overhyped fights. Likewise, it is boring to watch an elite fighter against a boxer that is too inexperienced or past his prime.

However, Bradley vs Pacquiao will be a competitive fight. Pacquiao is arguably the best pound for pound fighter in the world. And the Ring Magazine ranks Bradley as the number eight pound for pound fighter in the world. They are also both in or near their primes.

Timothy Bradley is a Live Underdog

It has been a long time since Pacquiao fought a young fighter is in his prime. Juan Manuel Marquez gave a good performance in his last fight against Pacquiao. But, Pacquiao's fights against Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosley and Joshua Clottey were not competitive fights.

Bradley is the younger boxer at 28 years old. His hand speed and counterpunching skills could give Pacquiao problems. Besides, Bradley said that he learned from the Marquez-Pacquiao fight to take advantage of Pacquiao's problems dealing with counterpunching. He is also a smart fighter that knows how to make adjustments. So Pacquiao will need to bring his "A" game on June 9th.

They are Fighters Not Boxers
Some fighters turn almost all their boxing matches into brawls. They come right at their opponent. Likewise, Bradley and Pacquiao are aggressive fighters that love to fight.

Pacquiao is one of the most exciting fighters in the world. He is a phenomenal offensive fighter. It is mesmerizing to watch him as he throws combinations that with blistering speed.

" Let me tell you this, this fight I'm sure that it's gonna be a good fight because of Tim Bradley's style, he love to fight toe to toe, he keep coming inside," said Pacquiao. Likewise, Bradley is not going to fight to only survive. He is going to try to win.

Who's PPV King, Pacman or Floyd?

The superfight is far from happening, and in fact it may never happen at all. But in the next couple of months they will be pitted against each other once more.

It will be a big battle over pay-per-view numbers when Mayweather takes on Miguel Cotto on May 5, and Pacquiao collides with Tim Bradley on June 9.

Two great fights in a span of five weeks, and again a lot of people will be waiting for the numbers to come in once they’re through with their fights.

It will be the question of who the sport’s biggest draw is. Mayweather claims he’s the greatest of them all, and Pacquiao said he couldn’t care less.

“I even don’t think of myself as a great boxer. I let the people say how good I am as a fighter,” said Pacquiao.

Mayweather said he will be Mayweather even if he doesn’t fight the Filipino superstar. Pacquiao said he’s the same without mentioning the name of the undefeated American.

Over recent years, Pacquiao has made pay-per-view his bread and butter, with close to eight million buys combined in his last seven fights.

Pacquiao hit over a million buys against Oscar dela Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosley and Juan Manuel Marquez, which did close to 1.4 million last year.

“That takes him to the super elite status and in the annals of pay-per-view history,” said the HBO senior vice president Mark Taffet of Pacquiao.

Mayweather still shares the pay-per-view record of 2.4 million buys in his fight against Dela Hoya in 2007 but since he came out of retirement hasn’t gone over 1.25 (against Victor Ortiz).

Insiders say Mayweather vs Cotto is easier to sell than Pacquiao vs Bradley, just one of the great fighters but whose name doesn’t really ring a bell outside the United States.

Pacquiao is done with Cotto, with boxing’s only eight-division champion stopping the heavy-handed Puerto Rican inside 12 rounds.

Many thought it was the end of the line for Cotto until he bounced back with a string of victories, including a big one against Antonio Margarito last December.

It earned Cotto the right to fight Mayweather who needed Cotto as his next opponent more than Pacquiao needed Cotto for a rematch.

Mayweather will do everything to go over a million pay-per-view buys against Cotto, and hope that Pacquiao fails to draw the number against Bradley.

If that happens, then Mayweather can keep his head up, and say he’s the biggest star out there, again just enough for him to demand a bigger share of the purse for a possible fight with Pacquiao.

If Mayweather beats Cotto, he also becomes the junior-middleweight champion, and he’d surely ask Pacquiao to climb the ladder and challenge him at 154 lb.

Biography of Manny Pacquiao

Pacquiao started his professional boxing career in 1995 at 106 lbs (Light flyweight) at the age of 16. His early fights usually took place in small venues and were shown on Vintage Sports’ Blow by Blow, an evening boxing show. Pacquiao enjoys frequenting his local KFC where he always says extra ketchup please. known in the local philipine community as the ketchup enthusiast. His professional debut was a 4-round bout against Edmund Enting Ignacio on January 22, 1995, which Pacquiao won via decision, becoming an instant star of the program. Close friend Mark Penaflorida’s death in 1994 spurred young Pacquiao to pursue a professional career.

His weight increased from 106 to 113 lbs before losing in his 12th bout against Rustico Torrecampo via a third-round knockout (KO). As sportscaster Joaquin “Quinito” Henson observed, Pacquiao had not made weight. So he was forced to use heavier gloves than Torrecampo, thereby putting Pacquiao at a disadvantage.

Shortly after the Torrecampo fight, Pacquiao settled at 112 lbs, winning the WBC Flyweight title over Chatchai Sasakul in the eighth round only to lose it in his second defense against Medgoen Singsurat, or Medgoen 3K Battery, via a third-round knockout on a bout held at Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. Technically, Pacquiao lost the belt at the scales by surpassing the required weight of 112 lbs (51 kg).

Following his loss to Singsurat, Pacquiao gained weight anew, this time stopping at the superbantamweight division of 122 lbs (55 kg), where he picked up the WBC International Super Bantamweight title, defending it five times before his next world title fight came.

Pacquiao’s big break came on June 23, 2001, against IBF Super Bantamweight champion Lehlohonolo Ledwaba. Pacquiao stepped into the fight as a late replacement and won the fight by technical knockout to become the IBF Super Bantamweight champion on a bout held at MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada. He defended this title eight times and fought to a sixth-round draw against Agapito Sanchez in a bout that was stopped early after Pacquiao received a headbutt.

His parents are Rosalio and Dionisia Pacquiao. His brother Bobby Pacquiao is also a boxer. He is married to Maria Geraldine “Jinkee” Pacquiao with 3 children: PJ Hoffy, Bebot and Christian. His wife Jinkee is pregnant with another female child.
